The goal of this retrofit was the conversion of the 1990 Mori Seiki MV Junior Mill into a 5-axis mill, from a 3-axis, in addition to the upgrade of all major electrical and mechanical components using Yaskawa Motors and Power Automation Controllers.

In addition to the physical labor required to clean and modify the machine, additional work in understanding the proprietary CNC control software and hardware provided by Power Automation was required. Thus a small scale workbench setup complete with DC power supply, CNC controller, motor driver, and I/O rack was assembled to perform small scale testing operations controlling stepper motors.
